"By excavating the detritus of urban consumption,  I question the connection between the sacred and the sold.  My work examines the interdependence of consumerism, productivity, and the desire for a resounding calm. Drawn to the visible histories of entropy, I find objects that insist on their own impermanence. By questioning the relationship between these decaying surfaces and the glimmering sheen of plastics, I confront the audience with both their own reflection and their visceral response to the materials. Like meditation, my work is a process of inquiry. It is a means of excavating the cultural contours of my own internal and external landscape, and searching for the roots of attraction." - Michael Gordon
