Certainty in Possibility: Grand Opening Exhibition

November 13th, 2015 – November 29th, 2015

Abigail Ogilvy Gallery is pleased to present "Certainty in Possibility," a group exhibition featuring three emerging artists. Keenan Derby, Katie Wild, and Straw-k exude innovation in their practice, opening their eyes to creativity in thought and analyzing the distinction between present and future.

Keenan Derby is a new member of the arts community in Los Angeles, California. Recently moving from Boston, MA, where he received his MFA from Boston University, Keenan's work focuses on the interplay of texture and color. Intrinsic to his process of painting is a constant compromise between action and reflection. He continually aims to consolidate information and create order, and the pieces in this show are no exception.

Katie Wild lives and works in Pawtucket, Rhode Island. Recently receiving her MFA fromUMass Dartmouth, she quickly continued exploring the breadth of her abilities during her artist residency at Contemporary Arts at Woodside in Troy, NY this past summer. Katie analyzes social constructions, and then breaking them apart to realize new ways of portraying the human form, using herself as a model. By using non-traditional surfaces, such as acrylic on plexiglass, her work defies the past and moves the viewer into a new, undefined dimension.

Straw-k is an artist-duo who has recently gained international attention as an innovative force in the arts. Sofia Bennani and Alex Singer-Bieder first mastered their original straw prototype while studying at Ecole Spéciale d'Architecture in Paris, France. Their work is created through a brand new process. By melting plastic drinking straws together on the surface, they are able to create a strong material that has a surprising interaction with light. The process is high-tech and artisanal at the same time.
